About Fuquay-Varina"It feels like I'm on vacation!" That was the reaction of a visitor from Raleigh as she strolled down a quiet, Fuquay-Varina street one evening, returning to her host's home after dinner at a local restaurant. And it's one of the many great qualities that attract new residents to the town, year after year. Shaking off its image as a sleepy Southern town, Fuquay-Varina has awakened with a new energy - one that reflects the diversity of the Triangle, while maintaining a friendly, village-like community. This blending of past and present has given the town a unique vitality that, indeed, often feels like vacation. Preserving the Past with an Eye to the FutureSeveral civic organizations work together on revitalization projects within the town. The committees are generally composed of both long-time residents and newcomers. Their efforts are beginning to be reflected in the look of downtown Fuquay-Varina. Broad Street, an area in what was originally the community of Varina, has been transformed into an updated version of its former glory. Historic Varina features brick-accented sidewalks, ornamental trees, retro-style lampposts and wrought-iron benches. South Main Street, in the part of town that was once Fuquay, has also enhanced its streetscape through grants to local business owners that have tranformed the face of the downtown area. Local organizations are working diligently to make sure that as Fuquay-Varina grows, its original character is maintained. LifestylesNew development within the town and surrounding areas has provided the community with housing in a broad range of lifestyle choices. The many amenities that develop along with a growing population have brought a host of shopping centers and restaurants to Fuquay-Varina. Neighborhoods are filled with the sights and sounds of suburban life - the scrape of hockey sticks on asphalt, the thump of soccer balls being kicked across backyards and, in summer months, the occasional tinkle of music from the ice cream truck.
